A major airport development is defined under Section 89 of the Airports Act 1996.
A Major Development Plan is a proposal for a major airport development which is prepared by the airport and submitted to the Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development for approval.
During the preparation of a Major Development Plan, there is an opportunity for stakeholders and the community to comment on the proposal. In addition to being advertised in the media and on Essendon Airport’s website, Major Development Plan proposals are also brought to the attention of the Victorian Government, Moonee Valley City Council and Essendon Airport’s Community Aviation Consultation Group (CACG).
A Major Development Plan (MDP) for the proposed development of a hotel on the airport site has been approved by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Hon Warren Truss MP.
The approved Major Development Plan can be downloaded free of charge from the link below for a period of 180 days, until 30 July 2015.
Printed copies of the approved MDP are also available for purchase or inspection by members of the public for 180 days, until 30 July 2015. The approved plan is available to be viewed or purchased at the offices of Essendon Airport Pty Ltd, Level 2, 7 English Street Essendon Fields from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
A preliminary draft MDP for the hotel proposal was advertised for public comment for a period of 60 business days from 28 May 2014 to 20 August 2014.Thank you to the stakeholders who provided written comments about the proposal. In accordance with the Airports Act 1996, EAPL gave due regard to all comments received.
