Information about applications for building activities at Essendon Airport.

Background

Land use planning and building permit control at Essendon Airport is regulated by the Airports Act 1996 (Act). As Essendon Airport is located on Commonwealth land, all building approvals for construction activity on the Essendon Airport site are issued under Commonwealth law.

The Airport Building Controller who reports to the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Local Government determines whether a building permit for a proposed building activity is issued or not.

For an application for a building activity to be successful at Essendon Airport it must be consistent with the Essendon Airport Master Plan which is a document approved by the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Local Government.

Information published on this website

As of 27 March 2010 the Airports Act (Building Control Regulations) 1996 requires certain information about building applications at Essendon Airport to be published on the Essendon Airport website.

The aim on this measure is to ensure that the community has the opportunity to view building applications that have been, or are to be lodged with the Airport Building Controller for approval, and the outcome of the application (Register of Building Applications).
