Essendon Airport Noise Working Group
As requested by the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Anthony Albanese, in his approval of the Essendon Airport Master Plan in October 2008, the Essendon Airport Noise Working Group, consisting of Federal representatives, Mr Kelvin Thomson and Mr Bill Shorten, and representatives from the Department of Infrastructure, Air Services Australia and Essendon Airport Pty Ltd (EAPL), provided a number of recommendations to the Minister in a report that was released today as part of the National Aviation Policy Statement ‘Flight Path to the Future’.
Sixteen recommendations were developed including further investigation into runway modifications, helicopter movements and fly neighbourly agreements.
The Working Group has also recommended establishing a Community Consultative Committee. This Committee will be made up of Federal, State and Local Government Representatives, EAPL, and two community representatives. Mr Clive Judd of Strathmore and Mr Drew Arthurson of Airport West have been nominated by Mr Thomson and Mr Shorten respectively as the community representatives.
