Essendon Airport Jet Crossing

Essendon Airport has commenced works to install Australia’s first jet crossing.

The northern access road into the Essendon Fields business park from the Tullamarine Freeway is well underway and completion is expected during September 2007. This main access road will connect with the old Wirraway Road which in turn will provide access to English Street. The connection will provide road services to the Terminal and the new Coles Supermarket and associated specialty shops due to open in November 2007.

In order to maintain aviation activities the jet crossing will be installed across an existing taxiway. The crossing, similar in operation to a railway crossing, will allow aircraft to taxi across the public road to gain access to existing aircraft hangars located to the west of Wirraway Road.

EAPL representatives traveled to Germany and the United Kingdom to inspect similar facilities.

Further information on the jet crossing will be provided in coming weeks.
