
Aerodrome Lighting Commissioned
Following nine months of dedicated work the $5 million Essendon Airport Airfield Lighting Upgrade has been completed one month ahead of schedule.
This new integrated and modern airport lighting system includes:
- High Intensity Runway Lights on runway 08/26;
- Medium Intensity Runway Lights on runway 17/35;
- Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) system on all runways;
- Runway Guard Lights on all Runway/Taxiway intersections; and
- A new Airport Lighting Equipment Room (ALER).
All aerodrome lights can now be activated by an Pilot Activated Lighting system.
This upgrade is one of the largest General Aviation infrastructure projects of its kind in Australia for many years. The new lighting will greatly increase the safety of aircraft operations at Essendon Airport.
